Multivitamins - who uses them? Well, you probably do, Americans spend ,000,000,000 a year on multivitamins alone. 70 % Australians are no less keen on them, spending a tiny ,300,000,000, and yes a that is a ton of zeros!!

Who needs them? Well the number of people that can say that every day they honestly eat a well-balanced diet of containing lots of fruits, nuts and vegetables, whole grains, dairy, along with chicken and fish is not just low, it is merely non-existent. Of the people who think they are doing well, most do not realize the sheer quantities that have to be consumed to maintain that 'well-balanced diet'.

Okay, so almost everyone needs a multivitamin, but which one to choose? Having 30,000+ vitamins on the market presents so much choice it normally is a case of finding the bottle you think looks the nicest a or the cheapest. After all, a vitamin is a vitamin right?

Fortunately, 7 Canadian and American biochemists have come to rescue us from our ignorance. They looked at and compared what is in each of these multivitamins by separating and measuring each ingredient - that is, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and other components.

They put together the 'perfect' multivitamin, which actually does not exist as some vitamins needs to be taken separately and it would be the size of large chestnut, and rather difficult to swallow!

They examined how absorbable the vitamins were, whether they were in the right amounts/form and the variety of vitamins and minerals. Also looked at was having the vitamins in the right combinations for the body's needs. The score was how close each one was to that perfect multivitamin out of 100%.

A staggering 50 out of the total 110 multivitamins did not even reach 10% and only the top 11 multivitamins were above 25% of what the human body needs on a daily basis.

The popular supermarket brands all featured below 10% possibly due to being forced to compete on price with other supermarkets. The downside for you, means the product you take every day is a hugely inferior supplement.

In other words, you get what you pay for. In some cases ignorance is bliss, in others it is a big wakeup call. My father has taken supplements for many years before and after he developed cancer and never once questioned the quality of what he was consuming. After reading this, he too, wondered why he ever thought not to research something so important to his health, when he did such a great job of researching anything else that he bought.

My advice, choose a multivitamin that is backed by a great company with a good reputation and do not just buy any old vitamin because of the price. You would be better off spending the money on something else.

Anti-Aging Agents

Wrinkles, sags, lines, freckles and aliver spotsa are all normal accompaniments of aging--or are they? We hear so much hype about what goes on in the aging process it becomes really difficult to separate fact from fiction. However, we do know that there are some topical ingredients that will help the skin combat oxidative stress, regenerate tissue and heal itself. This list covers just a few of the anti-aging heavy hitters you will find in MV products. For a more complete discussion of aging, please visit the About Aging page.

Alpha-lipoic acida"A powerful anti-oxidant. Alpha lipoic acid's antiaging benefits are in part likely related to its ability to increase levels of the amino acid glutathione, which also possesses anti-aging properties.

Australian bush plum-- With the average vitamin C content of 3.0 - 3.5% (range= .2 to 5.9%) the bush plum provides the most concentrated natural source of vitamin C known. The typical bush plum contains about 2907 mg vitamin C per 100 grams of edible fruit.

Beta-carotenea"a natural precursor to Vitamin A, whose cell regenerative properties have given it the reputation as the askin vitamin.a Vitamin A is essential for skin health. Supplements are often given to help with cases of stubborn acne.
Carrot seed essential oil-- This essential oil is widely appreciated for its ability to help heal dry and dehydrated skin. Carrot seed essential oil has a high carotol content, which provides good skin-rejuvenating properties. It also contains beta-carotine and it is rich in vitamins A & E. The oil's aroma is sweet and it is an excellent essential oil for mature skin.

DMAE-- (dimethylaminoethanol) An amino acid and antioxidant membrane stabilizer. DMAE works synergistically with antioxidants to enhance their strength, and to help repair and stabilize skin cell membranes by expelling waste.

Evening primrose oil-- Evening primrose oil is one of the most concentrated sources of gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid with anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. The body converts the GLA in evening primrose oil into prostaglandins, substances that function like hormones and help to regulate body processes. It also contains substantial amounts of polysaturated omega-6 fatty acids.

Ginseng extract-- (Panax quinquefolium) When applied to the skin, ginseng has been shown to enhance the cellular function of skin cells and stimulate skin cell regeneration. It is useful in combating wrinkles and the visible signs of aging. Ginseng is extracted from the root of the ginseng plant after the plant reaches maturity, which may take six or more years.

Glyconutrientsa"provide nutrients so skin can biosynthesize hyaluronic acid and other glycosamineglycans, thus maintaining skin plumpness. Read more about the benefits of glyconutrients on the Glyconutrients page.

Gotu Kola-- Known for its remarkable wound healing properties, gotu kola is often used for treating burns and skin ulcers.

Helichryssum essential oil-- Helichrysum stimulates production of new cells, so it's used in skin products to treat acne, scar tissue, bruising, mature skin, and burns. It also helps to prevent sunburn. It treats bacterial infection and inflammation and helps to boost the body's immune system. Its healing properties can quell a chronic cough, bronchitis, or fever, and it can alleviate pain by numbing nerve endings. It also lessens muscle pain, arthritis, enlarged veins, liver problems and counters allergic reactions like asthma. Its scent helps relieve depression, nervous exhaustion, and stress.

Idebenone- a powerful anti-oxidant. Results of a clinical trial were presented in February 2004 at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. They wanted to find out which ingredient offered the best protection against free radicals. Idebenone finished first against vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, kinetin, and alpha-lipoic acid. The benefits of this ingredient include shielding skin from environmental damage, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and reducing dryness and smoothing skin texture.

Kombucha teaa" Kombucha, also known as the Manchurian or Kargasok mushroom, is not a mushroom but rather a mixture of bacteria that includes Acetobacter xylinum, Acetobacter ketogenum and Pichia fermentans, and various yeasts. It contains lactic acid and glucoronic acid, essential for the biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid, an important component of the skin's dermal layer that contributes to skin elasticity and plumpness. It acts as a humectant.

Pearl powder-- By slowing down the development of melanin (the chemical in our body responsible for colour pigments) it prevents and facilitates the fading of pigmentation spots. Rich in proteins, pearls also help to renew skin cells. It is also rich in vitamin B-complex and polysaccharides which strengthen the muscles and improve metabolism. Taken internally, pearl powder also acts as a source of calcium to aid those with bone loss. Some Chinese experts claim that it has the ability to filter the sun's rays and correct damage done to the skin by the sun. Common uses: evens out skin tone, clears acne and rosacea, fades pigmentation marks and is beneficial for general complexion maintenance.

Quercetin--a bioflavonoid (or flavonoid), which is a type of pigment found in almost all herbs, fruits, and vegetables. Bioflavonoids provide the body with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant protection, and quercetin is among the most powerful and effective of known anti-inflammatories and antioxidants

Resveratrol-- Resveratrol ( trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene ) is a protective compound produced by grapes and other plants in response to environmental stresses. Studies have demonstrated that resveratrol has potent antioxidant activity and also has the ability to inhibit platelet aggregation. These actions may help prevent free radical damage throughout the body and provide protective support to the cardiovascular system.

Rose hip seed oil-- Rosehip seed oil contains Vitamin A, which helps to delay the effects of skin aging, assists with cell regeneration, and promotes increase of collagen and elastin levels. Rosehip seed oil also contains a high amount of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. In particular, it is rich in linoleic and linolenic acids, important skin nutrients.

Seabuckthorn oil-- Sea Buckthorn oil has multiple benefits in the area of restorative and anti-aging skin care. Natural antioxidants and essential fatty acids help reverse damaging effects of sun radiation and minimize long term effects of sun exposure. Promotes natural skin restorative processes. Tolerated by any type of skin, sea buckthorn oil is especially beneficial for rosacea-prone skin as it provides long term anti-inflammatory, restorative and revitalizing action.

White tea-- well-documented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Topical white tea polyphenols are likely to slow down the development of some signs of aging. In particular, since the sun protection benefits of white tea are particularly well documented, it makes sense to use a sunscreen with white tea in it, and particularly a sunscreen with zinc oxide, as ZO is chemically inert and will not react with white tea (which some chemical sunscreens might do, especially in sunlight).

Eveprim Evening Primrose Oil 1000 Mg Benefits

More and more it is becoming apparent how important omega-3 fatty acids are to health. But is it really necessary to supplement?

First you have to understand that supplementing with Omega-3 fatty acids does not give you "extra" of these beneficial fats. In fact, most supplementation recommendations probably give most people the minimum they need to balance the other fats in their diets. Studies of different indigenous societies (with low rates of chronic diseases like arthritis and heart disease) typically consume omega-6 and omega-3 fats in about a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio:1 to 2:1. Currently in the United States, that ratio ranges from 20:1 to more than 30:1!

Why the huge difference? First of all, grains and most commercially produced vegetable oils are primarily omega-6 fats and these are staples in the modern American diet. In addition, the main dietary source of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet of Americans used to be from poultry, eggs, meats, and fish. What do I mean used to be? Don't we still eat those foods in relatively large quantities? Yes, but what those foods are being fed has changed.

In the past, meat and poultry products were from animals that ate insects and/or plants that were available naturally in their environment. Plants and insects have high levels of omega-3 fats, so the animals eating them are going to be high in omega-3 fats too. Today though, most commercially raised meat, poultry, eggs, and even farm-raised fish, are fed primarily grain - which is high in omega-6 fats, not omega-3's, so the meat, eggs, and fish are also high in omega-6. This combined with our own tendency to eat a lot of grain-based foods has led to a dramatic shift in the ratio of fats in our diets.

This shift in the dietary fat ratio with very little omega-3's being consumed sets us up for a wide variety of health problems. Because omega-3's are essential to a number of biochemical processes, the lack of these important fats has led to a general increase in problems that include depression, inflammatory conditions (such as arthritis and allergies/asthma), and cardiovascular disease. There is even speculation that a lack of omega-3's may be at least partially involved in the development of neurodegenerative disorders and some types of cancer.

With the exception of the unusual person who does not eat a lot of grains and also consumes mostly free-range meats and wild game/fish, I highly recommend supplementing with 1000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids every day. Omega-3 supplements are usually made from fish oil, or may be from krill oil. Either way, as long as you make sure to buy from reputable companies that use independent labs to certify the purity and potency of their supplements, you will be fine.

For those who are strict vegans and do not consume animal products of any kind, I suggest using flax seed oil supplements(at least 1000 mg per day). Flax oil is not high in omega-3's but the fats in it can be converted to omega-3 in the body in most individuals. There are some people who cannot efficiently make the conversion to the needed omega-3's, and if you are having problems with depression and/or inflammatory conditions despite taking flax oil, you may want to consider fish oil, or you may want to try walnut oil (which is high in omega-3's). Another option is to try evening primrose or borage oil , as these contain fatty acids that don't require as much conversion in the body to produce omega-3 fats.

Antioxidants including Vitamin C, Beta Carotene and Vitamin E are essential to improvin 00004000 g sperm count. They are powerful antioxidants and protect the sperm from oxidative damage and contribute towards increased concentration and sperm motility. Vitamin C is abundant in citrus fruit and berries. Orange and dark green vegetables such as pumpkins, carrots broccoli and kale are great sources of Beta Carotene. Vitamin E is found in nuts such as walnuts and almonds, and vegetable oils such as sunflower and safflower.

Eating healthy, exercising, and reducing stress are just a few things that you can do to help boost your fertility and semen production. By taking a multi-vitamin you can ensure your body is getting the daily requirement of nutrients and minerals. Many men also like to add a male supplement that is specifically designed to increase semen production.

Vitamin C - protects sperm from oxidative damage and prevents sperm sticking together - called sperm agglutination. In one study, men who suffered agglutination took a supplement of 200-1000 mg per day, which increased their fertility.

Speman is a completely herbal ayurvedic formulation proven to promote spermatogenesis by improving the testicular, seminal vesicle and epididymal functions. Speman improves the sperm count and the quality of semen by increasing the LH-FSH producing basophil cells in the pituitary

Reduce your stress levels. Numerous scientific studies have shown that stress causes low sperm counts. Listening to a subliminal meditation CD in your sleep, such as Quantum Relaxation can reduce your stress levels, and improve your sperm quality.

Diet can have an impact on your sperm as well. Try eating lots of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains. In today's society, we tend to eat a lot of processed foods loaded with additives and little nutrition. Become label conscious and try to eat a more balanced diet. Healthy fats can help with sperm production. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in salmon, eggs, flax and avocados.

EPO helps the body to produce more fertile quality cervical fluid also known as "egg white cervical mucus." This is because fertile cervical fluid is thin, watery, clear and "stretchy" which can easily aids the sperm to swim through the uterus, into the fallopian tube, and then to the egg. EPO should only be taken from menstruation to ovulation.

Reduce your intake of alcohol and cut back on smoking. Alcohol can impact on your liver function which can then reduce your ability to produce high amount of semen. Smoking cigarettes and marijuana also negatively affects how much you produce. Quit smoking both cigarettes and marijuana and you'll not only notice an improvement in semen production but you'll be healthier too.

A light and regular exercise is a great way to reduce stress level of your body. But you have to be careful not to have too much exercise, especially exercise that can give a heavy impact to your testicles such as a bicycle race.

Also, eating a diet including the whole and unprocessed foods to increase sperm count is very beneficial and hence advised by sexologists. The best foods to increase sperm count and also to achieve the best health include whole grains, legumes, vegetables, fresh fruit juice, dry fruits, nuts, and seeds.

  1. QUESTION:
Is there a holistic vet out there who can help me? ?
I am not getting any answers from anywhere else & it really is quite urgent that I get advice from somebody soon. Please take the time to hear me out. I went out & bought several of the items listed on a web-site yesterday to get started with a homeopathic treatment for my 8 yr old male Sheltie/mix, who was diagnosed last Thursday with Atopic dermatitis. I am not employed at this time & need to work with just the items I have on hand. If you could just please help me with the right dosage & how many times a day, I would be truly grateful to you. I say it is urgent because my vet (conventional) has come up with a plan that is suppose to start today.(Tues. Sept. 2nd) What he wants to do is put "Buddy" on a daily regimen of tetracycline & prednisone for the rest of his life. (Which probably wouldn't be much longer if I allowed that to happen! (from what I've read.) He gave him a shot of the above mentioned "cocktail" on Thursday & said that it would last for a week & then we would start giving him the anti-biotic/cortisone mixture starting tomorrow. (He said that it would cost me a month to keep "Buddy" on this ungodly concoction knowing full well that I am not working, & what the long-term effects could be on my dog.) Here's what I have on hand & I could sure use your help on how to administer it. I think this would be a good start before I can get some money to buy anything else, don't you? Buddy is 75 lbs. Please if you would, give me the dosages, & how many x a day for his weight. (I really need someone to work with me...)

Benefits Evening Primrose Oil 1000 Mg

Evening Primrose Oil 1000mg

In the early part of her life, my friend Barbara had been blessed with “dream” cholesterol. Her HDL (good cholesterol) was high and her LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides were both low. She credited her excellent cholesterol to having good genes and eating a healthy diet. As a result, Barbara never gave her cholesterol a second thought until about five years post-menopause when her lipid profile showed that her LDL was climbing. Barbara decided to try lowering her cholesterol naturally by taking phytosterols, which are plant sterols that lower cholesterol absorption in the body. (You can find phytosterols in most health food stores.)
This new regimen helped to lower Barbara’s LDL, but after two years, her levels started to climb again. Her doctor suggested that Barbara start taking a low dose of Lipitor, a commonly prescribed cholesterol-lowering statin drug. After her first month on Lipitor, Barbara’s LDL returned to normal. But just seven months later, she began experiencing extreme fatigue and exhaustion. She literally felt like she was going to collapse at the end of each day, which worried her greatly. In addition, she started having muscle cramps.
After another visit with her doctor, Barbara learned that her liver enzymes were very elevated and her blood count was abnormal. Her doctor advised that Barbara immediately stop using Lipitor, which she believed was contributing to Barbara’s symptoms and abnormal blood work. Barbara followed her doctor’s advice, and within six months, her liver enzymes and blood count returned to normal. After telling another one of her doctors—her endocrinologist—about her ordeal, he told Barbara to avoid all statin drugs completely, since her body obviously could not tolerate them. So Barbara is once again following a natural approach to controlling her cholesterol by taking fish oil, flaxseed, evening primrose oil, and phytosterols.
I know that Barbara is not unique in her experience with statin drugs. Millions of people have side effects such as headaches, muscle aches, liver problems, and digestive upset while using prescription cholesterol-lowering drugs. You may be one of them!
Fortunately, there are safer, more effective natural solutions available. In addition to eating right and exercising every day, here are a few of the latest and greatest ways to safely tame your lipids.

  • Sit with caution! New studies indicate that the health effects of sitting most of the day are as grave as the effects of smoking—even if you break up every day with a decent workout. Humans were designed to spend most of their waking hours doing what researchers call “non-exercise activity.” Studies of the cellular regulation of muscle lipoprotein lipase (which is necessary for the metabolism of triglycerides and cholesterol) show that daily, low-intensity, intermittent activity is essential for healthy lipid ratios. No matter what you do for a living, spend at least one minute every half hour on your feet either walking, stretching, bending, twisting, or doing knee lifts.
  • Grab some glutathione. This breakthrough nutrient is a naturally occurring peptide that can significantly reduce cholesterol not only in the bloodstream, but also in arteries and cells (December 2007, Atherosclerosis). I recommend taking ReadiSorb’s Liposomal Glutathione (www.readisorb.com). Follow dosage instructions on the label.
  • Take omega-3s with plant sterols. Results of a groundbreaking placebo-controlled study show that eating a diet high in omega-3–rich canned tuna significantly improved cholesterol levels, but taking plant sterols or stanols with the tuna was even more effective (June 2007, Medicina Clinica). My advice is to take 3,000 mg of high-quality fish oil daily along with 2,000 mg of plant sterols or stanols, such as Source Naturals Beta Sitosterol with Phytosterol Complex (www.sourcenaturals.com). You can also enjoy two meals per week of tuna. Be sure to choose a brand that has been tested for mercury.
  • Take soy isoflavones. According to the Women’s Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation (WISE) study, higher intake of soy isoflavones was associated with significantly improved cholesterol and triglyceride levels (June 2006, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism). I recommend that you take 50 g of soy protein a day, which should contain 100 mg of soy isoflavones such as daidzein and equol. However, if you are allergic to soy or are soy intolerant, avoid taking it.

Other cholesterol-fighting nutrients include:

  • CoQ10 enhances mitochondrial energy for high-demand heart tissues, helps maintain normal blood pressure, and fights free-radical heart damage. Many studies demonstrate that women in heart failure are consistently deficient in this powerful antioxidant. I recommend taking 30–100 mg daily with food.
  • L-carnitine works with CoQ10 by carrying fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they’re converted into energy to help the heart work more efficiently. I recommend taking 1,000–3,000 mg per day between meals.
  •  Nattokinase is a powerful enzyme that reduces cholesterol and has other cardiovascular benefits. I recommend 200 mg per day.
  •  Green tea extract is rich in flavonoid polyphenols called catechins that have powerful antioxidant properties for heart health benefits, including reduced LDL cholesterol. I recommend 300 mg per day.
  •  Pomegranate is rich in polyphenol antioxidants that not only prevent atherosclerosis but actually reverse it by accumulating in artery-scrubbing macrophages and inhibiting the oxidation of LDL cholesterol (September 2005, Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry and 2002 Drugs Under Experimental and Clinical Research). It also has beneficial effects on blood pressure. I recommend 100 mg of pomegranate extract daily, standardized to 30 percent punicalagins.

For cholesterol-reducing benefits, you can try one, two, three, or all of these nutrients, which are available at health food stores. Your subsequent cholesterol tests will help you determine which combination works best for you. Or, you can take a supplement called HDL Booster (www.enzy.com), which contains several of these nutrients. This formulation has been clinically proven to increase HDL cholesterol by up to 23 percent.

Humans have long understood the medicinal properties of plants and have imbued trees, plants and flowers with spiritual properties. In a cave in northern Iraq dating to 60,000 - 80,000 BP lay a neatly buried Neanderthal strewn with medicinal flowers (including yarrow, cornflower and grape hyacinth). This person may have been a shaman or healer. Archeologists found remains of garlands strung with gold in burials unearthed in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor in Egypt. In ancient Egypt, garlands were worn by loved ones of the deceased and left at the gravesite, just as we do today. And in the Alpine region on the border of present-day Austria and Italy, a 3,000 year old mummy (the Iceman or Oetzi) was found with tattoos. There is evidence that his tattoos were therapeutic since they were filled with a mixture of burned herbs and applied to acupuncture points (9, 12, 13, 15)

In India, the Indus Valley civilization thrived from 2,600 - 1,900 BP with cities, agriculture, organized religion and sophisticated art and architecture. Some researchers believe that the Vedic culture and early Sanskrit civilization (with early elements of Hinduism) arose from this Indus Valley civilization.  Since ancient times, trees and plants have been considered sacred for a variety of reasons: a close association with a deity (neem and tulsi with Lord Krishna); sheltering an object of worship; belief that the plant was created from body of a god (the Flame of the Forest from the body of Lord Brahma); proximity to a sacred act (Buddha's enlightenment under the peepal tree); and finally, a major role in the local ecology or economy.

Early Vedic texts describe the energies within plants and their use as medicine. The Rig Veda describes plants and their actions. The Atharva Veda mentions the therapeutic uses of plant medicines in greater detail. Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, the two classic Ayurvedic texts classified all medicinal substances into three groups: vegetable, animal and mineral origin. Astanga Hrdaya and Astanga Samgraha deal with Ayurveda material medica.

According to the Atharva Veda, all of creation is a part of the cosmic web. This web was created by the one Supreme Spirit and is beyond all relative creation. The Supreme Spirit is within each person, so humans have the capacity to remold the web into a divine life on earth. Humans as well as devas/gods affect the web through their actions. Humans, societies, animals, and nature are all interdependent. When the energies are in balance, we have health and when they fall out of balance, we experience disease. This is true at both the individual and societal level.

Ayurveda texts describe a set of specific plants, alone or in combination as rasayana (nourishing the essence of life). Each herb embodies energies/vibrations that match an energy/vibration in the human body. Nature uses the same materials when creating plants, minerals, mantras, and human bodies. According to the Vedic sages, the building blocks of nature (subtle vibrations) are universal. Due to this belief in the likeness within all of nature, herbs, sounds, gemstones, colors, aromas, and foods all act as medicine when used properly. (2: pages 221 - 222; 7: pages 12 - 13; 8: page 140; 11, 16)

For this paper, I selected the following seven medicinal plants: amalaki, champaka, jasmine, neem, sandalwood, tulsi, and vetvier. For each plant, I listed their sac 00004000 red associations, dosha effects, energetics, indications, actions and included a brief description of the plant, its distribution and uses. I plan to continue studying herbs and their sacred associations. Another goal is to study native Northwest plants and apply Ayurvedic concepts to their use.

    Evening primrose oil question..
What are the benefits in using this tablet for hair? Secondly for skin & nails.

If i snipped the top of a capsule and rubbed the oil on my hair / scalp would it be effective? thank you !

    • ANSWER:
its great for strengthening hair and nails and is great for the skin...but swallow the tablet instead. Is you snip the top off and rub it in your hair...all you're doing is coating the strands of your hair with the product...it actually needs to get into the hair itself to work...and that will happen when you swallow the capsule.

  2. QUESTION:
Evening Primrose or Starflower? Which is more effective for hormone balance?
I've been trying to manage PMT and a poor hormone balance for a number of years; I'm 29, pretty healthy and very happy in life, but my iregular hormones cause me a huge amount of distress (mood swings, anxiety, oily skin, painful spots on my chin a week before my period, iregular periods at times etc). I've been taking 1000 - 2000g of Evening Primrose oil for the last 2 years, but have heard that Starflower suppliments have a higher and more effective amount of GLA that helps to regulate healthy hormones. Which suppliment is better, are there any side effects with Starflower and what other health benefits do both suppliments have? Would dearly love some advice on this and any other natural remedies you've descovered. Many thanks.

    • ANSWER:
The ideal choice is Evening Primrose Oil for women of menstrual age for hormonal health some women find it useful to take Starflower ( Borage) as it contains more Gamma Linolenic Acid per gram of oil an ideal choice for those taking a lot of Evening Primrose Oil there are no adverse side effects to taking 1000 mg Starflower Oil. You could also try a supplement containing Magnesium many women like to take this mineral to help with their monthly cycle along with vitamin B6 keep an eye on your blood sugar levels around this time of the month.

  2. QUESTION:
Is Evening Primrose Oil good for Men too?
I originally began taking EPO to help with acne, and oily skin. When I looked further into EPO I found out about the estrogen producing effects it has.

I am worried that taking this product will lower my testosterone levels and destroy my sexual health. Should I be worried?

    • ANSWER:
EPO is said to help with the release of hormones. So for women EPO may help raise oestrogen. Whereas for men EPO may help raise testosterone. But it is also known to be a balancer with regards to hormones.

It is believed to be good for any condition marked by inflammation, such as the skin conditions eczema and acne, as some of the GLA it contains is said to be converted to anti-inflamamatory prostaglandin E1...and is also a source of invaluable [essential] fatty acids for health.

GLA is also said to inhibit the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone [DHT] via 5-alpha reductase inhibition...hence taken by some men and women for male-pattern hair loss. 5-alpha reducatase does play a role in the health of the prostate gland and male fertility. But too much is implicated in benign prostatic hyperplasia. Thus it might be about balance.

It might be about balance.....as with anything in this life. Take EPO for your skin but don't overdo it.

Raised testosterone is linked to acne. Testosterone levels running wild may bring about bouts of acne in those prone....such as during the teen years. EPO may have a balancing effect with regards to hormones...as proposed [by others]. So perhaps it helps by keeping hormones levels optimal...[i.e not running wild].

Take the typical dose but don't overdo it. Let your body be your guide. If you notice any detrimental effects reduce the dose step-wise, and reduce further after a while if that does not help. And of course you can stop taking it if you deemed that necessary. But if you notice no detrimental effects then there should be pro problem with taking it.

Anyone with any mental health issues should consult a doctor first before taking EPO...particularly with manic depression as it may make the mania episodes worse.. This also applies to anyone with epilepsy...it may increase seizures. Really, one should consult a doctor or pharmacist first before taking any supplements or herbs if on any prescribed medications because of the risk for supplement/herb -drug interactions, and if one has any underlying medical condition.

Witch hazel extract after washing/cleansing may help with acne and oily skin...it is anti-inflammatory and tonic for oily skin. A non-oily cream containing extracts of chamomile and/or calendula applied after this may help with further inflammation. Eat pumpkin seeds for zinc and copper which both benefit the skin....and other seeds and nuts may benefit the skin too. Walnuts are a good source of omega 3, which benefits all bodily systems.

      Best wishes.

  3. QUESTION:
    anyone take evening primrose oil??
i bought it for my daughter for her skin as the man i the health shop said it's good for spots

    • ANSWER:
Evening primrose capsules are great, I take them for my menstrual cycle, because I used to get very bad PMS and cramps, and the Evening Primrose oil has helped a lot.

They won't do your daughter any harm, they just add vitamin and mineral supplements to the diet and the body takes what it needs to manufacture whatever hormones it needs to deal with what's going on in it. Much better than taking artificial hormones.

  6. QUESTION:
    Supplement and Vitamins ....too much?
I am trying to sort myself out and after reading up on nutrition I have started taking some supplements. It seems like I need a pill for everything but at the moment I am taking:
    Iron
    5-HTP (50mg)
    Co Q10
    Perfectil (Hair,Skin & Nails)
    Evening Primrose Oil (3000mg)
    Vit E
    Vit C 1000mg
    MSM 1000mg
    B Vit Complex
    Chromium
    Ginseng
    Ginkgo biloba
    Hyaluronic Acid 50mg
    Flaxseed Oil 2 tbsps
I also have some other things that I take but not everyday, green food powder, bee pollen, brewers yeast. soya protein powder and lecithin. I use these either in my porridge or smoothies a few times a week.

I also currently take a daily antibiotic for acne.

I am using supplements to help improve my general health, to improve my skin, help with depression and migraine and assist with any short fall in my vegetarian diet.

It seems quite a lot really and I am worried about any possible problems all these may cause me but I sort of feel I need all this at the moment.

    What do you think?

    • ANSWER:
      Hey there!

I am also a vegetarian with acne. Ok. I'm no nutritionist, but I have read extensively about supplements for pretty much the same reasons you have. I have to say, you might be taking too much.

I say this because it sounds like you have doubt in your heart about this and are truly wondering if you are taking too much, and I believe that if you have this gut feeling you are probably right. Also, the amounts of each vitamin you are taking is a bit too much.

I won't go over the whole list, but I'll just comment of some of the supplements you mentioned:

1000mg of vitamin C is far too much, you should only be taking around 300mg per day.
Some of the other ones, I am not entirely sure about so I won't comment on those.

Invest in a really good multivitamin, it makes all the difference. It keeps your body in balance and has all the proper amounts of each supplement. I'd say only supplement in omega 3's, and even then try to just eat more fish instead of taking pills.

It's really important to try to get your vitamins from your food as much as you can, and believe me, thats when you'll start getting the results you want.

I used to supplement, and was still miserable with acne. But now i just take a multi vitamin every day and eat foods that are high in the vitamins I want, and I feel and look better than when I was supplementing.

Do what you feel best doing, but remember that your body is designed to take its nutrients from food and does so much better than from concentrated versions in pills!

Good luck in balancing your vegetarian diet and vitamins!

  7. QUESTION:
Which of Mother Natures herbs should I rub on my daughter?
My daughter has been complaing lately and I need to know which roots and herbs I should prescribe her. Here are her symptoms: fever in the afternoons, weight loss, insomnia, leg pains and fatigue.

The guy at the health food store says hemp oil, evening primrose and maka root. But he's been wrong a lot lately (my skin is still all chapped and I've been using what he said for a bout a year and no results). What do y'all think?

    • ANSWER:
Your daughter could be quite sick -- weight loss in children is not a good sign (unless they are seriously overweight and trying to lose it). The "guy at the health food store who has been wrong a lot lately" is definitely not a good source of advice. Trying to cure her by rubbing on herbs could delay doing something effective. Take her to a real doctor.

  8. QUESTION:
    Any home remedies for these:?
Everytime it gets cold everything starts getting dry?:S

lips, hair, exzma kicks off, dry skin and just wondering if theres anything that can stop it and give like nutrients and moisture to it all?
I have these tablets downstairs that i take daily which my dad said helps but they did but now its cold doesnt work. they are called " evening primrose oil & multivitamins" for womens health.

    any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Colds, coughs, and sore throats are common ailments which can be quite miserable. Natural home remedies are the best alternatives for annoying problems caused by cold weather.

      NATURAL HOME REMEDY FOR COLD
Try one of these natural remedies to ease a cold already in progress:

      - Add one to two teaspoons of powdered cloves, ginger, licorice, basil, or cinnamon to your meals.
      - Make a tea using a cup of hot water, a bit of clove powder, and one-half teaspoon of each of the following: fennel seeds, ginger powder, and cinnamon. Let steep for at least five minutes, and drink throughout the day. If you are on an aspirin regimen, you should know that ginger may also thin the blood, so be more cautious with the amount of tea consumed.
      - Include large amounts of raw garlic, nature’s antiseptic, in your recipes.

It all seems a bit much but it is what I seem to need. It won't do me any harm will it?

    Thanks for answering!

    • ANSWER:
The best vitamins and minerals that you can get are the ones in very good natrual and balanced diet!!!!! They are the easiest ones to absorb and would probably be cheaper than that lot. If you are depressed try to up the amount of natural feel good foods like grains and seeds. Your body sounds like it is cryng out for attention and that will add or aggreviate depression. If you need stress relief to feel better treat your self to aromatherapy massage or some other form of alternative medicine.

      Good luck

Blondie, my 1 yr old yellow Lab retreiver has a nice shiny coat. However she is prone to skin problems and sometimes likes to bite and scratch herself. She has not stopped shedding since we got her home. Blondie is an otherwise healthy dog. I have heard that EPO is a good treatment for skin related ailments in dogs. Should I give it to an otherwise healthy dog? If yes, how much and for how long?

    • ANSWER:
The best oils for anti-inflammatory purposes are thought to be fish oils. The n-3 omega fatty acids are the most directly responsible for anti-inflammatory purposes. There are times when the addition of any oil seems to help skin problems. The linolenic acid in primrose oil is thought to be helpful for some skin conditions but if you can find a marine fish oil source, it would probably be the most helpful.

  5. QUESTION:
Please someone who's experienced problem skin - recommend a suitable moisturiser.?
I suffer from problem skin, I'm 23. It started 9mths ago, I suspect it's a result of stress. It is mild acne and is mostly on my chin and around my mouth area. It is also pretty bad on my back and on my chest. (Aaaagggghhhhh!) My skin isn't dry and isn't what I would call oily but it must be oily beneath the surface if I'm having excess oil blocking my pores (although my back is oily). I began taking Evening Primrose oil and Agnus Castus a month ago to balance my hormones. I also take Apple Cider Vinegar (since 3 wks ago) in water twice daily and use ACV as a toner for my face, chest and back. I drink 2 lts. of water each day. My diet is good. I have an active lifestyle. I wash my face with a simple cleanser 2-3 times daily, don't scrub or excessively wash. I use Aspirin (Salicylic Acid) to exfoliate three times weekly. What am I doing wrong? I want to treat my spots and scars with a good moisturiser (day and night) but am afraid it will cause a flare up. I heard Vit E is gd.PLS HELP
Annie, you say that some foods aggravate problem skin (I hate that word a.c.n.e). What foods do you find make it worse? tnx : )

    • ANSWER:
Hi I have had this problem for ages and it seem the more I use the worse it got and i have tried loads of expensive products like clinique and the spots still didnt clear up and infact got worse. Especially the ones on my chin. I have used medical treatments but these just burn the skin etc.
But like you i read about takiing evening primrose to help, which does a bit but then i thought it it works on the inside then it will work on the out side. So i went out and got a bar of soap in evening primrose oil and shower gel and facial moistuirsers. Usually if i use soap on my face i get more spots. But i went to tesco and got a bar of soap for 24p and i was amazed with the results, All the spots dryed up in on day, and the moisturiser works well to help the spots and as the shower gel is the same but in liquid form this helps the mild acne on my back. I bought, soap, shower gel, Moisturiser, night cream, and eye cream all in Evening Primrose for less than one bottle of clinique wash. And my face is clear than ever. So its worth a try.

  7. QUESTION:
westie with very bad skin problem?
We brought Ella at 8 weeks old, she was a fluffy pup with excellent skin. At approx 6months old, she developed bad skin rashes, lumps and bumps on her back, her tail and her back legs. Sometimes these would appear as purple blisters and other times as dry, crusty spots. She would constantly chew her skin but it remained just in those areas. When taken to the vet she was prescribed 3 tablets at a time (I think they were antibiotics), we are now on our third vet and all three vets have said it’s just a common problem with Westies and they have been very little help. At the end of last year, her skin has rapidly got worse and now she is covered in spots from head to toe. In January 2010 I took her back to the vet who prescribed Malaseb shampoo and 30 days antibiotics. During her time on the antibiotics her skin seemed to be clearing up a little but then her skin turned black. She was having Malaseb baths twice weekly for a month. At that time we had shaved all her fur off so that we could deal with her skin. As her skin was clearing, we cut down the baths to once a week. All too soon her spots, rashes, lumps and bumps came back worse than ever. I got some more Malaseb from the vet but this time it seemed to make her skin condition worse. She has had skin scrape that has come back clean. The past month, her skin has been the worst ever, she has cuts on her neck that won’t heal, she has a mixture of crusty, round, dry ‘eczema like’ problems and then she has her red blisters. From the age of one year we have tried her on so many different things with no improvement. She has been on several high quality pre-biotic hyper-allegenic dog foods and as for treats she has only been given natural real dried fish or james well beloved real organic chicken. I have tried her on cod liver oil, evening primrose, sulphar tablets, megavit plus, omega 3 and on her skin I have used sudocream, aloevera 100% gel, neem oil. I have never mixed and matched all these products, I have tried them individually in 3 month slots. Nothing seems to help. I now, as a last resort have put her on Burns dog food. They state on the packet that it helps food intolerances, skin, liver and they claim that it is a holistic dog food. After speaking to their nutritionist on the phone I have been told to cut everything out of the diet so she is just consuming one bag of this food. Ella is now, very withdrawn, in a lot of pain when being touched and is hiding and cowering away. She’s crying for no reason and obviously not very happy.

I am at the stage now where I feel selfish letting her continue while she is so obviously suffering. I have spent months online trying to get a remedy for her as the vets give me a 10minute consultation at a cost of £40 and just tell me “that’s what westies are like”. Ella was going to come on holiday with us in the middle of August to France, but my vet has already advised me that customs probably won’t let her back in the country, looking as she is. But then, I don’t feel that I can leave her with anybody as I would be worried how bad her condition will be when I return.

Any advice will be grately appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
You should ask the breeder what they think first.

Second, it sounds like environmental allergies, NOT food allergies.

Antibiotics won't help, it's anti-inflammatories, and anti-histamines your dog needs.

Ask a Vet about giving your dog Benadryl, or other over the counter antihistamine.

Here is a website that may help, this is where I took my dog for her allergies, although I know you are in the UK, the articles may help:

      http://www.dermatologyforanimals.com/faqs.html

Try SALMON oil, and feed a FISH BASED dog food, with NO grains, and a carb source such as potato or sweet potato. Or try Vitamin E caps. An oatmeal based shampoo may be your best bet as far as bathing goes. Don't bathe too often.

  8. QUESTION:
Skin problem: Fingertips Water makes it bubble up like VERY-VERY-ROUGH-RAISED CALLUSES. Any ideas how to cure?
The Skin Problem is not like a burn blishter, but more like thousands of single round stalks of skin that is more akin to looking like a wart does with it's singular round stalks of "skin". With a needle nose tweezers I can grab the "stalks" and pull them out. IT COVERS THE TIPS AND SIDES AND THUMB TIPS, IT ISN'T A BUNCH OF MOUNDS, ITS THE SKIN!
If fingers stay dry for about 12 hours, the flare up will subside and be not so noticeable; but as soon as I come out of the shower, my fingers will look like a field of brocoli or califlower. My dermatologist has prescribed putting multiple layers of prescribtion and OTC meds. Including the following lotions; Cetaphil, Psoriasin, Keri Sensitive skin formula, Vasoline Advanced Healing, Lamisil AT and Carmol40 (40%Urea).Also the following pills; Vitamen E 800 ium Flaxseed Oil, Evening Primrose. I've also tried sugar and Lemon juice paste and scrubing fingers with it. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN GET RID OF THIS FUNGUS, PARASITES,OR WHATEVER?

    • ANSWER:
I can suggest a lotion called Renew, I have seen it fix many skin problems not unlike yours.

  10. QUESTION:
Should I stop taking these supplements now that I'm taking bee pollen?
I'm 29 years old and had terrible acne in my early twenties. After lots and lots of research, I began taking supplements about 4 years ago - FINALLY my skin cleared. However, I just started taking Naturebee Bee Pollen and I'm wondering if I can stop taking most of the other supplements now. I'm sick of taking all these pills.

    I've been taking:
    Fish Oil
    Evening Primrose
    Hair, Skin, Nails supplement
    Pomegranate
    B complex
    Iron
    Alpha Lipoic Acid
    Acidophilus
    Aloe Vera
(The last two are for digestive problems.)

    • ANSWER:
MeeMo ... besides the bee pollen, I would take the evening primrose oil (on salads with apple cider vinegar) only. If your periods are very heavy, I would take 7.5 mg of iron per day away from other supplements. I assume you eat plenty of raw organic fruits and vege.s. I would also eat yogurt at least once a week. Don't eat white or wheat flour products. Focus on quinoa, millet and brown rice for grains. I assume you also get a little protein in your diet every day (e.g grass fed beef, chicken, turkey with no antibiotics nor hormones; salmon or cod). Drink plenty of fluids including calcium enriched rice milk. Avoid junk and preservatives. Avoid dairy products, except yogurt. Only almonds or walnuts for nuts. Cardio exercise. Some daily sun early or late in the day. Chip

  11. QUESTION:
How long does a hollistic acne treatment take?
I stopped birth control 3 months ago and my skin started errupting in acne last month, its been awful and depressing. I hate acne medications because they only temporarily fix the problem and I feel like they really damage skin in the long run sooo...
I found this book, eat your way to healthy skin, and I have been eating very well for about a week and a half, plus Ive been taking supplements such as:

    fish oil
    evening primrose oil
    zinc
    probiotic
nioxin (mainly for hair + skin and nails)

I'm not using an medications and trying to avoid that, and my face soap is all natural (miessence). Some days I feel like my skin is clearing up and others I feel like its just the same (new breakouts coming in right where the old ones were)

SO, I was wondering how long it generally takes to cure acne hollistically? I just want to know because I am very tempted to start differin but am reallllllllllyyy trying to avoid it.
Also, if you have any suggestions on other good supplements for acne

    Thanks!

  12. QUESTION:
Iams food allergy itchy westie puppy?
I have a 13 week old west highland white terrier puppy and I have been feeding him on Beta Puppy (same food as breeder) but when I took him to the vets for his routine vaccinations the vet said that the hair along his back looked rather dry and I would need to keep on top of it to prevent problems, he recommended changing food to a better quality food and giving him Evening Primrose Oil supplements, we have gradually introduced his new food Iams puppy food, and he has now been on it for 5 days, however for the last two days he has started itching and biting at his fur and skin and he also has bad flatulence, upon reading further I have heard that Iams is not as good quality as I thought it was and is full of fillers. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this or have any information on this, we have decided to take him off of it and put him on Orijen Puppy food after lots of research but if you have any information I would be interested to hear. I know that westies can suffer skin conditions but I am suspicious to how quickly it came on, also he has had no environmental changes, or near pesticides etc as he is not allowed out of my back garden yet. A lot of people recommend feeding a "human diet" but I am against this as I think it would require a lot of Research to ensure it was reaching there dietary needs.

    • ANSWER:
Yes, Westies are prone to skin issues and corn, wheat, and by-products don't really help. I know Iams has at least two of those items. Orijen is a super quality food so give it a try. Sometimes it takes a bit for them to heal up and for you to see the difference so be patient. Also you can add fish/salmon oil supplement to their diet to help them get the fatty acids they need.

  13. QUESTION:
    Urgent help needed! Blemish questions!?
Ever since the beginning of 2007, I've been suffering from a terrible outbreak of blemishes on my face. Over the past few months, I did lots of research & tried many experiments on myself to find the cause of the problem & I've figured out what it is. It's my period time. Every single time my period is drawing near, I get a TERRIBLE breakout of spots on my face. I've even got some on my neck & they're so big & painful that you'd think I'd been bitten by four vampires! Yes, that's how big they are! I've been to see the doc who assures me it's not as serious as Acne or any other skin illness, so that's good. Once my period has began & finished, my skin immediately clears up but then I'm left suffering blemish scars.

PLEASE! Can ANY woman at all tell me what I can do during my period time to control my period blemishes? Can you also recommend anything for blemish scars? I already take plenty of Omega 3 & a high dose of Evening Primrose Oil in 1300mg. Anything else?!
PS, could you please also tell me if wearing make-up on a regular basis to cover my blemishes while they heal is safe or does make-up make blemish outbreaks worse?
jessiecatsopolous! I am grown up! I'm 23, I have a life & I'll get over it when I find the answer. If you don't have anything nice to say, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL! Maybe you should grow up yourself!

    • ANSWER:
You aren't the only one with the breakout problem. I'm 30 and I have period-related problem-skin :) I'm surprised your doctor couldn't suggest something to ease the pain of blemishes...I know they are very painful if you get the same big red bumps like I do.

Try not to squeeze your blemishes as you will just cause even worse scarring. I know it's hard not to touch but try your best not to pick and squeeze. You can sometimes just force the bacteria/infection further into your skin.

If it is an option for you, talk to your doctor about using birth control (naturally this is a personal choice!) The birth control will help balance your pre-and-during period hormones which is most likely the cause of your breakouts. At least that's why my skin breaks out near my period time. Your doctor can also prescribe other medicines to help balance hormones if birth control isn't an option for you.

Also don't forget to wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Don't wash too often though because you can over-dry your skin!

Oops, and about wearing make-up. It's not a big deal. Just look for non-clogging make-up (non-comedogenic) like Almay and look for things that are light, breathable, and with no oil.

  14. QUESTION:
    pms any advice please?
hi, i'm 24, very nearly 25 and have suffered quite badly from pms and heavy periods since i was 10. but it seems to be getting worse each month as i get older.

Basically, every month without fail I get headaches and "flu"like symptoms, feel shy, weak and tired, get bad skin, cronic pains and and aches in my stomach back and legs. I can't eat or even drink sometimes but feel a constant urge to urinate for a few days at least and cant empty my bowels, then cant stop doing so for at least a day when my period begins.
More often than not I faint and am pysichally sick.

The worst problem though is that each time, i also become severelly depressed(even suicidal sometimes), angry and teary and often very confused and forgetful.it usually lasts for a good week- two weeks and in the past month i have had two consecutive periods.

I have been suffering from stress and panick attacks which i believe can have quite an effect on this type of thing, i have taken antidepressants- prescription and herbal in the past and been on various types of the pill as advised by my gp when i explained the problems - but all with no success. i am being treated for anxiety now with hypnotherapy which seems very much to be working but just cant cope with these symptoms anymore, it puts me out for days to the point i am even, once again off work.

i have tried things like evening primrose, starflower oil, changing my diet but nothing seems to work. i fully accept that everyone gets symptons and they wont just magically disappear but I just need something to make them bareable enough to get on with my life each month!.

i'd be extremely grateful for any advice. thanks for reading
as i have already explained above, i have alread seen the GP a few times they all advise the same thing: the pill or antidepressants!. i have tried the pill in various forms and anti depressants and all they have done is make me worse each time.
I have also been to A& E after fainting and back to a new GP last year as i have moved area. I have given them symptons and had countless blood tests including in A& E , and aparently ( i stress the word here) I am totally clear of any other conditions.
Rhianna: Yasmin was the first one i tried it made me really violent and sick so i had to come off it, i tried for months to stick it out but it didnt improve. I will consider the B6 , i was strongly looking at Agnus Castus after i saw it a health site today, but do you reckon its really not worth it?
hendre, why are you yelling? theres this button on your keypad called "capslock" comprende?
thanks for the help folks will deffinately look into these options : )

    • ANSWER:
There are some things for which you need your doctor's advice and support and some things you can do yourself:

THINGS YOUR DOCTOR CAN HELP YOU WITH:
      (1) Do blood tests to determine your hormonal function and if you are low in iron and/or certain vitamins: please don't just start taking vitamins because somebody said they may help. You will be wasting your money if you don't need them and you may even do yourself more harm.
      (2) Conduct examinations or refer you to a specialist in order to make sure you do not suffer with endometriosis, polyps, fibroids or any other uterine or pelvic issues
      (3) Do tests to determine you do not have an infection such as thrush, chlamydia or an STI
      (4) Make sure you do not suffer with scoliosis or any other malformation of the spine or pelvis dysplasia (you may need to be refered to an osteopath or chiropractor for further treatment if this is the case)

If after the above you are found to be in good health and without any hormonal, nutritional, physical or structural problems,

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOURSELF:
      (1) Drink plenty of pure, clean water (if you can manage 3-4lt a day that would help a lot)
      (2) Do light exercise, preferably outdoors so you get some sunlight and fresh air daily
      (3) Eliminate all sugar, preservatives, salt and processed food from your diet
      (4) Make sure you eat plenty of fresh, green, leafy vegetables
      (5) Stop drinking fizzy or caffeinated drinks, especially if they have sweeteners and sugar
      (6) Limit dairy and gluten
      (7) Limit alcohol, stop smoking if you are and if you take any recreational drugs stop those too - don't go cold turkey, take time to wean yourself off them and ask for help if you need it!

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL NOTE: One factor not many people know which could be the reason behind PMT and painful menses is a toxic liver: in order to deal with this you may need to see a naturopathic doctor or naturopathic nutritionist. You cannot do this yourself, you need expert help. Drugs, including the pill and painkillers only make the problem worse because the liver has to deal with these and they stress it further.

And, of coures, you need to take time out to do things you enjoy, which relax you and make you happy!

      All the best

    • ANSWER:
My doc advised vitamin B6. Talk to your doctor because the doses he advised can't easily be bought over the counter these days. I took 100mg a day after ovulation and 50mg a day once my period had started. This really helped. I started at 50mg post-ovulation and worked up to the higher doses before the symptoms became more manageable. You do have to watch out for any overdose symptoms - mainly tingling as I remember but they seem to be reversible providing you stop immediately although I never had any.

The other alternative you might want to think about is going on to a long term version of the pill which only induces bleeding every 3 months instead of every month. I seem to remember a trial of this in Edinburgh some years ago which was well-tolerated. At least you won't have the misery so often.

As I have told numerous medics - the menopause is wonderful!!

    • ANSWER:
Hi There. I'm 27 and I was in your same situation before I started using Arbonne's NutriMinC Re9 Anti-Aging line. What many people aren't aware of is most soaps and cleansers on the market contain mineral oil, the molecular structure of which is too large to penetrate into the pores of our skin so it sits on the top layer like saran wrap. This causes dirt and debris to collect on our face, thus causing our skin problems. They also contain harmful ingredients such as alcohol, wax, dyes, chemicals, fragrances, etc which strip your skins acid mantel (its protective layer) and causes irritation, dryness, and more skin problems. You don't want to DRY out your face because your skin will try to overcompensate by producing more oil. You might want to try Arbonne. It's a Swiss company that is regulated by the FDA and formulates their products without the ingredients listed above. Their products are botanically based and beneficial for all skin types. Arbonne has a great acne line where people have seen amazing results! However, you may not need something this strong. The right skin care regimen with natural and beneficial products will help you. I would be happy to help you if you're open to giving it a try.

Leukemia is a malignant disease (cancer) of the bone marrow and blood. It is characterized by the uncontrolled accumulation of blood cells. In AML, the bone marrow makes many unformed cells called blasts. AML starts with a change to a single cell in the bone marrow. With AML, the leukemic cells are often referred to as blast cells. Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is a fast-growing cancer in which the body produces a large number of immature white blood cells (lymphocytes).

Essentially, leukemia begins in the bone marrow where blood cells are made. Because of that, this cancer can spread quickly throughout the body, eventually affecting other organs like lymph nodes, the spinal cord, the brain or spleen. When leukemia is diagnosed as acute, that means the disease is spreading rapidly.

Other acute lymphocytic leukemia symptoms are: swollen lymph nodes, dyspnea, Bleed more easily, enlarged liver or spleen. Signs of acute leukemia may include; high fever, abnormal bleeding, easy bruising and prolonged menses. Sometimes the onset of symptoms is more gradual with low grade fever, weakness, chills, recurrent infections or lassitude, lasting for days or months before visual symptoms occur.

Acute myelogenous leukemia is the most common leukemia and is a fast growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Blood cells in the body are made up of platelets known as white and red blood cells. Those who have AML don't have enough white or red blood cells and instead posses abnormal cells that grow quickly as the illness progresses.

Chronic leukemia cancer is better known for the abnormal proliferation of mature white blood cells. When your body is faced with disease, white blood cells divide rapidly to quickly eliminate intruding microbes. A normal immune system will later destroy the excess white blood cells, however with leukemia they continue to proliferate. Chronic leukemia mostly afflicts older adults, and therapy is monitored through typical, regular doctor appointments.
